_________________________________________________________

Your Name: Megan Meier

Your Team Name/ Level: Heat Athletics Firestorm/ Small Senior Level 5.

Your Hometown: Oak Creek, WI

Years Cheering: 5

Do you play any other sports? Yes, I've played softball for 6 years.

How did you get started in competitive cheerleading? My sister Missy joined an all-star team at a local gym. She loved it and asked me to try it and now it is my life.

How much time do you spend training per week? For my competitive team, I spend 2 days a week but my high school team is usually 4 or 5.

Your favorite part of the routine and why? My favorite part of the routine is the opening because it always looks cool and it sets the bar for the whole routine.

Your proudest moment or greatest accomplishment. My proudest moment was competing at the Cheerleading Worlds in Orlando, FL. I was able to meet cheerleaders from New Zealand and see the amazing talent this sport has.

How would you explain the sport of competitive cheerleading to someone who has no idea what it's all about? Competitive cheerleading is a sport of great endurance.  It is all about teamwork. If one person does not do their job then it will show in the team performance. It is 2 minutes and 30 seconds full of amazing stunts, jumps, tumbling, dancing, and enthusiasm.

What do you think are the three most important characteristics a competitive cheerleader must posses? They would need determination to get the skills they desire, confidence so they can learn new skills without freaking out when they have to try something new, and being able to work well with your teammates no matter what happens.

What has been the hardest skill for you to master, and how did you accomplish your goal? My hardest skills were my standing full and double.  I worked on them all of my free time whether it was on my trampoline, in my yard, or going to the gym extra to make it perfect.

In your opinion, what is the one thing that makes a team successful? I notice that when my team does not work together we will not hit at practice and we end up doing it more times then we should, so I think being able to count on each of your teammates is the best thing for every team.

Outside of cheerleading, please describe your perfect day: My perfect day is hanging out with my friends just relaxing and not thinking about anything but having fun.
